“A mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if its to keep its edge.”
George R R Martin.
Part 1: Intro
I was late in discovering the Song of Ice and Fire books. I didn’t even know they existed until the first season of the Game of Thrones TV series had aired.
After watching the first season I sought out the books and inhaled the information from the pages. The books had pages upon pages of character development, much like the Lord of the Rings books ” my favourite parts of the Tolkien books”. Both authors have this amazing ability to write characters with such depth that it makes you feel like you truly know the characters in their books.
Over the passing years the realms of Westeros became even more detailed with the release of background books, map books and short stories.
The Game of Thrones tv series continued to dominate discussions around the work place and family homes, with its shocking and surprising scenes such as the Red Wedding and trial by combat.
Then in 2017 the most amazing thing happened, the Song of Ice and Fire Kickstarter! Which was fully funded at over 1.5 million dollars off a goal of 300’000 dollars.
In this hobby blog we will delve into the realms of Westeros, the history of A Song of Ice and Fire and create armies to fight for the Iron Throne.
Coming soon……..Part 2: The history of the Ice and Fire books.
