folding guild ball pitch

This is an easy to follow tutorial, showing you how I transformed my easy folding battlefield into a Guild Ball pitch.

The techniques used in this tutorial can be used to create a battlefield for any army or setting.

I picked up some 1″ insulation foam from my local hardware store (you can use XPS foam or polystyrene) Then, I measured out the inside of the batten-enclosed surface, which measured 43″ by 33″ and cut the foam to size.

I then coated the board with PVA and slotted it into place. I placed some heavy books on top and left it to dry for 24 hours.

You can speed up this step by using something like No Nails adhesive.

I then drew out my design onto the foam using a marker pen.

The next step was to cut out hundreds of small squares and rectangles from cereal box card, to represent flagstones.

The card was glued down in the desired areas using PVA glue.

I then covered the board in PVA and fine sand, one section at a time.

Once the sand was dry, I mixed a 50/50 mix of PVA and brown paint and coated the entire board.

This step will seal the sand and card, while undercoating it at the same time.

Once the board was completely dry, I dry brushed the entire surface with a light brown paint.

Once that layer was dry, I gave the whole board a light drybrush using a beige paint.

The flag stones were painted grey, then highlighted with a lighter grey.

I picked out a few of the stones with a white paint to create my desired logo.

Once the paint was completely dry, I brushed on areas of pure PVA glue, then sprinkled on static grass.

There we have it, a complete easy build folding Guild Ball pitch. You can use these techniques to create a folding board to match any games that you play.

If you do give it a go, please post your pictures over in the forum so we can see how you got on.
