Today we are going to learn a little bit about the rolling balls of death known as Droideka, then have a look at the sprues and build one of these killer droids.
What is a Droideka?
Droidekas, also known as destroyer droids (destroyers for short), or as rollies in clone trooper slang, were a type of droid used by the Trade Federation during the Invasion of Naboo and, later, by the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars. Manufactured by the Colicoids on Colla IV, droidekas were dangerous and deadly, designed to exterminate their adversaries with extreme prejudice. They could transform their shape by curling into a ball and moving up to 75 kilometres per hour across a surface, or stand on three legs and utilize a shield generator while firing at a target.
The Sprues
The Droideka sprues contain enough parts to build 4 Droideka, 2 rolling and 2 standing.
The sprues are laid out with 1 rolling and 1 standing Droideka on a sprue “you get 2 of these” and 1 sprue containing the arms and guns.
The sprues are laid out nicely and are labelled so you can easily find the parts you need during construction.
Construction
The Droideka were a little more complicated to build compared to the B1 Droids but i would say they were still easier to build than most of Games Workshops modern kits. I built the Droideka in sections, legs, body and arms. Once they were dry I glued the 3 parts together then glued the Droideka to the base.
